The Methodology 2 Course (MET 2) in IUP is part of a series of courses to develop research skills and perform scientific research in medicine and health discipline. In this course, students will be exposed to various paradigms and research approaches in the health sector, applying the principles of evidence-based clinical practice, especially in the context of understanding various scientific publications to later be able to find new benefits and research spaces that are useful for preparing research proposals. This set of abilities is an essential competency component that is needed by prospective doctors in making decisions related to diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis of patients requiring a scientific foundation (Evidence Based Medicine). Students are also expected to be able to identify various glitches in scientific publications in the field of medicine and health that are at risk of causing errors - bias, confounding, chance variation, and false causation, which will later become an inspiration to be able to minimize or control factors that can reduce the value and impact of a research. Students will also be prepared to be able to conduct critical appraisal in an integrated manner through the practice of conducting literature reviews with lecturers who are members of research groups at FKUB.

The Basic Medical Science Block (BMS 4A) is a competency course block that provides students with learning experiences in fundamental medical sciences, specifically focusing on the general concepts of clinical Microbiology as agents of infection. After studying the fundamentals of medical Microbiology, students will apply their acquired knowledge to understand how microbiological agents—specifically bacteria, viruses, and fungi—act as disease agents and how infectious diseases occur. Furthermore, students will learn about biosafety principles and methods for protecting both individuals and the environment against infectious diseases.
